Good morning, friends.

What a freaking month. January really told me to sit my ass down somewhere & I’m almost certain it told you the same thing. I hadn’t sent a Sunday newsletter in weeks because life been kicking me in the ass.

The month started off great. First, I was accepted into the Master of Fine Arts program at my college! Ya girl is about to have two degrees! And then an article I wrote got accepted to be published in the Times Picayune. If you have no idea what that is — just know it is THE newspaper of New Orleans and I couldn’t be more happy about this.

The second half of the month ripped me to shreds. Other than me and my son, the whole house came down with a stomach bug that just wouldn’t leave. It was so bad that my daughter had to be hospitalized for a night. I’m actually still trying to catch up on the sleep I missed during those two weeks. Mama is still exhausted.

But, today is a new week. Not only a new week but a new month. And if you know me, you know I’m a Sunday start girly. So a new week and month starting on the same day is chefs kiss. Not to mention it’s Black History Month 🖤. So we’re gonna claim all good things this month. Fresh starts, fresh energy, and new money amen?!

Anyway, grab your coffee cause I know it’s cold as hell where you are… and let’s chat for a bit.

**I’m Learning to Stop Interpreting Everything**

I used to think awareness meant interpretation. That if I didn’t pause to analyze a tone, a pause in conversation, a shift in energy, then I was missing something important. Like I was being careless with meaning or was letting life happen to me instead of understanding it. But lately, I’m learning that constant interpretation is sometimes just anxiety wearing a mask. Not every silence is a warning, and not every change in someone’s behavior is a reflection of me. Most times, it has nothing to do with us.

Some things are just that… things. A text left on read might mean that person got busy, not that they’re ignoring you or hate you. A quiet room doesn’t always mean that there’s some kind of tension. A day that feels off doesn’t automatically need a narrative (not always! But sometimes it could mean something. I’m learning discernment). I’ve spent so much time trying to translate life that I forgot how to simply be in it. So much time over analyzing things that I forgot to live in the moment.

So what if somebody didn’t text me back or check in with me first. If it’s that serious, or if I feel there really is an issue — I can simply remove myself and keep on living. Simple. But more often than not, they’re just going through it just like I am.

So what if today freaking sucked. Tomorrow will be a better day. I have started doing midday energy resets when I have sucky days. I stop myself, I acknowledge that today is not IT, I woosah, step outside for fresh air, ask God for strength, drink some tea, listen to some good music… and then boom! My energy has been restored. I don’t always get back to 100%… but it does help A L O T. And during that time that I’m resetting, I’m not overthinking about why today is or was terrible. I’m just realizing that not everyday is going to be peaches and cream. As someone who loves being in control of life — trust me when I say it hasn’t been easy. But my peace is being protected just a little more with just chilling the fuck out sometimes.

I’m realizing how much peace I’ve delayed by needing to know why about everything before allowing myself to feel okay. Why they said that. Why today feels heavy. Why something didn’t land the way I expected. That constant decoding kept my nervous system on edge, like I was always bracing for a hidden meaning I needed to uncover in order to stay safe and feel safe. But safety? Safety comes from trusting.

Trusting that if something needs my attention, it will make itself clear. Trusting that I don’t need to interrogate every emotion or moment for it to be valid. Trusting that I can let things pass through me without stopping them for questioning. This doesn’t mean I’m becoming careless or detached because I’m still observant and always will be. I’m still thoughtful. I just don’t want to live my life like a puzzle I’m responsible for solving in real time. I’m tired of that shit.

Some moments are truly meant to be felt instead of figured out. But as an avid over thinker, that can be tough as hell. However, I’m learning to let things be.

Some conversations don’t need an analysis and some days are just days.

So I’m practicing letting things land without immediately asking what they mean. I’m practicing staying in my body instead of rushing to my head that runs a million miles a minute. I’m practicing giving myself permission to exist without commentary all of the damn time.

If this season has taught me anything, it’s that peace doesn’t always come from understanding everything. Sometimes it comes from choosing not to understand it and just letting it be. What needs to be revealed to me will be revealed when it’s time. Until then, my overthinking is no longer allowed in the front seat of my life.

If you’re someone who struggles with this, I see you! We may not always have the answers immediately … but isn’t that the beauty in life?

So this week, I’m challenging you to just let shit go and just keep on moving. We have way too many things to be concerned about right now than overthinking petty bullshit. So that text that you keep over analyzing? Delete it. That message that was left on read? Forget about it. That person who’s wishy washy? Leave em where they stand. That bad day you had? Let it ride. It has nothing to do with not caring. It has more to do with making sure you’re not spending your entire life in a constant state of anxiety.

If it’s that serious? Address it. We’re big guys and gals ok?! But if not? Let that shit be. K? K.

Unbothered!

***Curious Minds 🧠***

> *While looking up a fun fact to share with yall today I came across this one about socks and orgasms. There was a study done by The University of Groningen and apparently, having cold feet during sex can interfere with the ability to really get into it. Now, idk about this one… because one, how am I supposed to get my toes sucked and two… socks are not sexy.*
>
> *So I’m gonna take my chances on that one. But, I thought it was a cool “fact”. Try it out and let me know how it works for you. 😂😭*

😭😭😭

While I am working on healing and being a better person, I will still air this bitch out.

Don’t let anybody play with you this year or any year following this one. Set your boundaries and leave people the hell alone if they aren’t trying to become better themselves. We are no longer attempting to rebuild people from the ground up just to be left drained. Last time I checked, I wasn’t a damn carpenter and you probably aren’t either. If they don’t want to change, LEAVE EM WHERE THEY AT. Why? Cause all you’re gonna do is get pissed off once you done lost your damn mind trying to change everybody and now you’re the one broken. That’s the worst feeling in the world — matter fact! Go get my gun!

I hope you have a great month this month. I really do. 💜 I hope you hear great news, I hope you get that thing you’ve been praying for, I hope you get new partnerships and deals, I hope you find your way, I hope you smile more than you cry, I hope you’re on cloud nine more than you are in the depths of depression. I hope this month shows you love.

Let’s have a great one!!!

Until next week,

Marie ✨🫶🏽
