Behind the Book: A Look Inside Scandal in the Dark 📖

When I first started writing Scandal in the Dark and deciding that it was going to become a book, I knew I wanted to create a story that was more than just a romance. It had to be layered, messy, and full of twists that would keep readers on their toes. I wanted love to be complicated, decisions to have real consequences, and secrets to unravel in ways that left my characters (and my readers) breathless. 😮💔

At its core, Scandal in the Dark is a story about love, betrayal, and the kind of secrets that can either destroy or save you. It’s about Hailey, Denzel, Sasha, and Jaylen—caught in a web of passion, lies, and choices that change everything.

💡 The Inspiration Behind the Story

I love stories where love isn’t simple. Sometimes, it’s messy, passionate, and full of gray areas. That’s the vibe I wanted… something that feels real. Also, let’s be real—who doesn’t love a good page-turner that keeps you up at night? 😏📚 I wanted to create deep, intense relationships that feel authentic, flawed, and raw.

🎭 The Characters: Complex, Flawed, and Real

Each character in Scandal in the Dark has a past that shapes them.

• Hailey is strong-willed yet vulnerable, caught between love and uncertainty.
• Denzel is charming and intense, but his past choices won’t let him go.
• Sasha? Whew. She’s insecure, impulsive, and unpredictable—the ultimate wild card. 🎭
• Jaylen is that dude you either love or hate—holding on to something that may no longer be his. 👀

These characters took on lives of their own. Sometimes, they even surprised me while writing. I have enjoyed watching the characters flourish. Especially with this being my first book!

🔥 The Themes: Love, Loyalty & the Shadows of the Past

One of the biggest themes is loyalty, but at what cost? How far do you go for love? When does your devotion for someone turn into destruction? These characters get tested over and over.

And let’s talk redemption—can people really change? Or are they stuck in their ways, repeating the same mistakes? I wanted to explore what happens when the past refuses to stay buried. 💀

✍🏽 The Writing Process

Writing part one was a whole experience. Some scenes flowed effortlessly, while others? Had me stuck at my desk, staring at the screen, questioning everything. 😵‍💫 Some nights, I’d sit there, asking my characters: What do y’all want?! And sometimes, their choices shocked even me. 😂

I started writing this story on a tipsy night back in January of 2022. It honestly was only supposed to be a short and sweet story with a twist. But as I continued writing it on my website back then, I was like hold up!? This could be a book. I actually let it sit for a whole year and didn’t touch it again until 2024. Now? We have a full novella!
