energy resets don't have to be dramatic
a Wednesday night chat
Usually Wednesdays are for my Wives of Blue Nolaverse series, but today… we’re just gonna chat.
This week hasn’t been about writing so much as it’s been about gathering inspiration. Normally I’m home all day — trying to squeeze out every drop of creative juice I can to write my stories. But this week, I had the luxury of having the car to myself while my husband is away for work. And it has been a breath of fresh air. Literally. Leaving the house every day? Discovering new little pockets of Louisiana? A blessing.
I’ve been trying to look for the good in things instead of defaulting to negativity. I used to be such a glass-half-empty person. Very pessimistic. Hard to talk to sometimes — and yes, I take full responsibility for that. But people change, and I’ve done a lot of that this year.
Instead of feeling down about being home all day — or only having limited time to run around — I’m grateful. Grateful that for the last few days, I did get to roam. Grateful that I get to be home prepping meals, cleaning, writing stories and blog posts… even if the only thing I usually see are four walls and the pond outside my balcony, lol. I’m grateful that I don’t have to work a traditional job right now, and that my days are centered around my writing and my family.
Who knows when I’ll have a week with the car again. That’s why I’ve been savoring every moment and capturing every little adventure. It feels good not to dwell the way I used to.
We may not have all the money in the world, I may not be able to swipe a credit card for every Amazon item I want (my cart is sitting at $3k right now… I’m literally insane and a chronic online window shopper), but I have love, food, a roof, a beautiful family, and this unexpected little week of freedom. I’m thankful beyond measure.
Being able to discover new places alone — sitting with my thoughts, hanging out with myself — has been energy cleansing in its own way. As a mom of three, that’s not always easy. Yes, I’m home alone while the kids are at school, but those hours fly by. Cooking, cleaning, writing… then suddenly it’s 3:30 and I’m back in mom-and-wife mode. It’s a blessing, but that fresh air and new scenery? My spirit needed that.
And look — I’m not here to give you a twelve-step program for resetting your energy.
That’s not me. What I will tell you is: go explore. Go somewhere — anywhere — that isn’t your norm or is a new place. Maybe you frequent a certain coffee shop or body of water when you need to do your best thinking — try a new place instead. Normally, I go to the library up the street for some peace. Today, I found a new coffee shop instead and then just so happened to stumble across a library that I wasn’t looking for.
When you go explore it can be anywhere: A lake, coffee shop, bookstore, river, a quiet field, or a corner of your town you’ve never walked through. Take your journal. Capture some photos. Write and release.
Let your thoughts spill. The good, the bad, and those in-between feelings. Ask yourself who you want to be. What’s the end goal for the version of you you’re trying to grow into?
When you sit with yourself in a new place, something within your perspective shifts… changes. Your brain breathes differently and your spirit rests differently. Your perspective cracks open and it changes a bit. There might be science behind it — I don’t know, I’m too lazy to Google it — but I know the feeling and I know it works.
Today? The clutter in my mind finally had space. I wasn’t anxious or worried about anything. I let go of whatever negativity was trying to cling to me from this year. I even cried — happy tears — because something in my chest loosened and told me everything was going to be okay. Just from simply being in a new space in my corner of the world.
We live life on autopilot. Whether you’re home like me or hustling at the same job every day, our routines start to blur together. So before the year is over, I’m asking you:
take yourself off autopilot for a day. Go somewhere new. It doesn’t have to cost money and it doesn’t have to be “aesthetic.” Just notice everything and feel everything. Let your inner child peek out again and be curious. Let your energy reset on its own.
Today, I journaled outside at a new coffee shop for 30 minutes in 37-degree weather. A stray cat sat at the table next to me the entire time and I named him Marley. I talked to him for a bit and I know he was listening. The locals inside probably thought I was crazy, but I love talking to animals, lol. Told him how it was my first time there and the coffee was good. Also expressed how freaking cold I was, but I endured it because mama ain’t raise no pu*sy!
When I left, I cried in the car because I felt lighter. I’m not sure why I was crying so hard… if it was the energy of a new place or the insane amount of words that I journaled (releasing and letting go).. but your girl was crying real tears on the long stretch of road I was on underneath the gloomy sky — wind kissing my cheeks and Big KRIT blasting through my speakers. I felt… so good. I usually am not able to journal that much, not even when I do my morning and evening journaling sessions. I truly believe the quaint little coffee shop that was new and fresh for me had something to do with that.
Then I accidentally stumbled into a town I’d never been to, saw some abandoned buildings and wondered about the story behind them and creating my own story in my head just for fun. I do that a lot — when I see old buildings that are no longer being used or rusted boats sitting idle in the Mississippi River. I wonder what story they tell and the kind of life they lived at one point.
Inside the town, I found their little library on accident, wandered inside, and wrote some more. On the drive home, I pulled over to vibe with some cows. Yes, cows. ANNNDDD they moo’d back. They were feeling the vibe too, I know it.
Today wasn’t supposed to be an energy-reset day… but it turned into one. I feel more at peace than I did when I left my house this morning.
Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that change everything.
One of my intentions for 2026 was to start exploring my city and surrounding towns and finding inspiration and creativity through little adventures — and look how I’ve already started that. Ahead of schedule?! ME!?
What a joy it is to be alive.
