Sundays on the Bayou ☁🌊
Your Weekly Dispatch from Soul
Good morning, cousins. Time definitely went forward this morning and I am not okay. Like please! Just keep the damn time what it is. What is the reason for springing it forward?!
This means waking up for me this week is going to be such a freaking buzzkill. I so badly want to be a morning person — I do. But it just don’t be working out for me like that.
Anyways… I started this off complaining… LOL. Let me switch gears.
Hello everybody. I hope your Sunday is starting off strong and I hope you got a cup full of something that hugs your insides in the best way. Let’s sit down and talk for a minute.
The Sunday Brew ☕
Becoming Someone New Without Realizing It
There are times in life when we decide that we are going to change and become someone better. We sit down with ourselves and we decide that we aren’t going to be this person anymore. We’re gonna be better people. I’ve done it.
I did it back in early 2025. I told myself I didn’t want to be the person I was anymore and that it was time for a change. I set goals, I made a list… I prepared myself. I prayed. I repented. I did all of the things that I felt I needed to do to prep for change.
But something that I started realizing, even going into this year was that… the older I get, the more I change naturally. Now of course you hear it all the time — you will change as you get older, yada yada. We’ve heard it. But as we all know, not everyone changes just because they got older.
There’s old heads right now still acting a damn fool like they’re 17 years old still. You never know if that would end up being you or not. There were things that I had in my mind that had me thinking that I was never going to change in that way. That my mind would never change on this certain topic. That I’d grow old with this certain ideology in mind. Activities that I’d never thought I’d be interested in. Routines that I swore weren’t for me. Books that I’d never pick up. Attitudes that I thought I’d never let go of.
Now here I am, two months away from 30 — completely unrecognizable to my 27 year old self. If you told me in 2024 that I’d be back living in my favorite place, going to the library frequently, checking out books with my little library card, studying James Baldwin, doing Pilates in my free time, making bread from scratch, full-time writing online with two published books, an editing business, a part of a beautiful Substack community — (shoutout to Blackstack and all of the beautiful people I’ve met since we connected), not arguing with people online, not acting a damn fool online and cursing people out, actually having just a FEW genuine friends that I connect with and love with my whole heart, not being everyone’s damn “friend”, not over-sharing my life with everyone who seems nice to me, not drinking every day to numb the pain, actually taking a week to finish one bottle of wine, losing 35 pounds, feeling confident in my body, being a softer and kinder woman (but with heavier boundaries), healing and taking care of my mental health, thinking before I react… and the list actually goes on, but for the sake of time we will stop there.
If you would’ve told me all those things in 2024 I would’ve told you that you were trippin’. Not because I didn’t want any of those things, but because I would’ve been like there’s just no way I can be that woman right now.
I didn’t intentionally just set out to do a whole 180 with my life. I didn’t prep for some of these changes and I didn’t make a list. A lot of it just happened naturally. Who knew that making a list of just a few things I wanted to change about myself, would be a domino effect of an entire personality and lifestyle change that I didn’t know was coming this soon.
I think I just started becoming the woman I always wanted to be. It wasn’t until a few months ago that I was like damn… who is this woman?! She’s locked in, she’s doing her house-wife shit, she’s writing her books, she’s blogging online, she’s happier, she’s nicer, she’s healthier… like where did she come from?!
Honestly, I say all of this to say that if you think you’ve lost your way, or if you think that you’re so far gone that you’re not going to be able to change — I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. I literally only wrote down three or four things that I really wanted to change about myself and my life and here I am a whole new person because of it.
All it takes is your decision to change one or two things and next thing you know… you’re doing things you never thought you’d do — but in a good way.
Start small. You don’t have to go all in extra hard at once. You can wake up and decide to change one thing and you never know how different your entire life can end up because of that one change. You’ll literally wake up one day brand new like, damn… who is dissss!? I like him, I like her.
You can do it. I know you can. Because stubborn ass Marie who is scared of change actually became a better person and she’s telling you it’s possible.

Curious Minds 🧠
Okay so I saw this “fact” online while browsing what I wanted to share with you guys today. I am not sure who did this study, but oh well. This is just for fun lol.
But apparently, people who are active in seeking to accomplish their hopes, dreams, and aspirations all throughout life are less likely to have a midlife crisis.
And honestly? It makes perfect sense to me. So this is your sign to start going after what you really want. Life is toooooo short to be living a lie, saying “maybe next year” on an aspiration, or simply just not seeking happiness in your life because you’re afraid. Let that shit go and chase yours! You have a purpose here on earth and it’s best you find it and start living in it.
Meme of the Week 😎

My dramatic ass trying to find my will to live this week after the government stole an hour away from my sleep. LMAO.
I hope y’all have a great week. I hope you decide on a change you want to see in your life and I hope you decide to go after what you really desire.
See y’all next week. 🥰
