Sundays on the Bayou☁️🌊

Good morning, cousins!

How are you feeling today? Of course I hope you’re feeling great. And if you’re not feeling great — how can we turn that around? Let me know sumn!

Anyway, I’ve had a long day — so let’s cut right to the chase so I can go curl up in my bed with a drink and rewatch all the episodes of FROM (it’s Saturday night for me right now). 🤣

I want you to imagine that we’re sitting on this front porch of this picture below — because that where I wanna be right now — and grab your coffee, tea, or mimosas and let’s have a little chat.

Not Every Season Is Meant For Growth, Some Are Meant For Maintenance

You know I’ve talked about this before — the toxicity around hustle culture, productivity culture, and this “rush rush” lifestyle that the world and social media has tried to place upon us. Actually, they haven’t tried, it’s happening. It happened. People are quite literally losing their minds trying to constantly get to the best version of themselves.

I’m here to tell you and remind you to slow the fuck down. If you’re moving so fast, how are you going to be able to evaluate your life right now for what it is? How are you going to be able to see yourself for who you really are?

How many of you actually sit with yourself every day? And I’m not talking about scrolling the clock app for hours, binging Netflix, or whatever it is you do in your free time that has nothing to do with actually sitting with your thoughts. How many of you journal and get to know yourself by expressing your feelings? Or taking yourself out on a date or a day out in your city — discovering new things that maybe you didn’t know you liked? How many of you sit in silence — no phone and no distractions to take your mind away from where you’re hurting, what you’re stressed about, or whatever else?

Because if you sat with yourself long enough, if you really looked at your life for what it is, there is a chance that you’re actually doing better than you think. You are probably stressed, anxious, and thinking you’re not doing enough because you’re consuming too much. And I’m talking from experience because at one point that was me. And some days, it still is me. I have to stop myself so damn fast and tell myself, wait a second — chill. Get off of social media for a few days, don’t consume too many shows for a little bit, and sit with your thoughts. Sit with yourself. Reset your energy. Go outside and sit in some damn nature. Let the sun kiss your body and the wind make love to your hair, boo! Come on now! I promise by the time you go back inside you’re gonna be like you know what… life is actually alright. I’m doing good! I’m okay!

And I’m also not saying that bed-rotting and scrolling or watching TV is the devil and you should never do it. But we are all adults here and I’m sure you’re able to read between lines and catch my drift.

You are doing everything else other than getting to know yourself more and loving on yourself. And because of that, you’re constantly in the state of mind that you need to be bettering yourself, growing, leveling up, filling your free time with productivity. Your fucking nervous system is shot to hell. It really is. You’re not at peace or relaxed enough to even realize that maybe where you are right now is exactly where you’re supposed to be. Or where you need to be to get to where you’re going. Maybe you’re supposed to sit in this version of you for a little bit before trying to level up. Some phases of your life are meant for you to sit in and maintain. Not every single season is a season for growth. OF COURSE I AM NOT SAYING YOU DON’T NEED TO GROW! Please don’t take my words and twist them around, lol. I’m saying that if you stopped for a minute and looked around — you’d see that this version of you is OKAY… and you don’t need to rush to the next phase because you’re comparing yourself to people online who probably have way more than you at this stage in life. Or because some hustle guru on Facebook told you that “rich people don’t sleep” or “you’ll sleep when you’re dead.” Please don’t subscribe to that bullshit. PLEASE.

This isn’t a message for everyone, but it was on my heart to say this because someone out there needed to hear it. So if it doesn’t apply, let it fly. Some seasons are meant for self-care and maintenance. You are doing fine, and right now is the season to maintain who you are. I think if you were to sit with yourself more often, you’d know exactly when it’s time for you to move to another phase of your life.

So if you’re in a season of growth because you know you need to be there, I’m proud of you. Continue doing the work you need to do to get to that next phase. But when you get there… please stop and smell the roses. Take a breather and sit in that version. Maintain her, maintain him. And give yourself the credit you deserve.

This version of you is worthy of rest, peace, and stillness.

Curious Minds 🧠

LOL this one is kind of funny to me for some reason because I’m a little childish. But did you know that the term “lunatic” was created because it was believed that mental illnesses were influenced by the changes of the moon phases? 😭 Now, I ain’t even gone hold y’all — for some reason — I believe there might be some truth to this. IDK! I need one of my beautiful moon girlies to let me know if there could be some truth to this! Until then… what the hippies be saying? Stay wild, moon child!
