Sundays on the Bayou☁🌊
Your Weekly Dispatch From Soul
Good morning beautiful people.
Today is one of them days where I don’t feel like saying much at all… kinda just in my head about life, ya know?
I wanted to put together something good for you guys today, but if you’ve been here a while you already know that sometimes it’s just not in me.
BUT. I do wanna leave you with something. This week, I rediscovered the song ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley. My dad listened to it a lot when I was younger. When I’d hear it back then, I liked it. But I obviously had no idea what the lyrics meant. For whatever reason it wasn’t already on my playlist — but it came into my head this past week so I put it on there. Listened to it a million times because for one its a great song, but for two — my girls wanted to hear it over and over. They will be so cultured — I love it.
Anyway… the lyrics hit me in the face.
I mean, I’m an adult now. Not only am I an adult, but a deep thinker. I read into everything.
“I remember when I lost my mind, there was something so pleasant about that place.”
There isn’t only one way to lose your mind. You can also let go — let go of fears, conformity, everything that they say you should be. My initial thought was that he was talking about the ego.
So I googled it. Low and behold, that’s exactly what he was talking about. Ha, I love me.
“Yeah, I was out of touch, but it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough, I just knew too much.”
There’s a point in one’s life where they begin to seek knowledge of the things beneath the surface. Once you go down those rabbit holes, you never come back. Just ask me — I know. Life seems darker since I started seeing things for what they are — that’s why they say ignorance is bliss. When you know too much, you do start looking crazy to people who live life above the waters.
“Come on now who do you think you are? Bless your soul… you really think you’re in control?”
That line right there is what hit me the hardest. Because who do we think we are sometimes? I’m asking that honestly…
Then proceeds to say, “well… I think you’re crazy… just like me.”
Like, you’re just as crazy for thinking that you’re in control.
This song isn’t sad at all. It’s not dark… it’s freeing. The realization that we aren’t in control, losing the mind you were trained to have and deciding to let go of all of it. That shit is freeing. There’s more to the song, but I’ll just leave this here where we are. If you haven’t heard the song in a while, go back and listen… and sit with it. Add it to your playlist.
Maybe you’re feeling just like CeeLo Green right now. Maybe you think you’re losing your mind, when really you’re letting go of the norm and releasing your need to be in control.
Idk, it was on my heart to share that.
I’m gonna go now, but I hope every one reading this has a great week. I’m gonna do my best to have a great one. I’m in a mood, but I’ll shake back.
I love you! And thanks for supporting me.
