Sundays on the Bayou ☁🌊

Good morning, cousins! Yes, I know. Another new name for my Sunday Newsletter. I just wanted it to match the vibe of the rest of my blog… it also reminds me of sitting outside with coffee, watching the water, hearing the birds chirping, smelling gumbo being cooked somewhere in the distance.

The Louisiana vibes are around me at all times and this is the most peaceful I’ve ever been in life. So for now, you’re kicking it with me on the bayou and having a little chat… and I hope you stay a while.

It’s the first of the month and it falls on a Sunday. Yall know I’m a Sunday start girly, so to have a new month starting on the first day of the week brings me joy. Makes me want to grab my planner and really get my life together (which I’ve already done, go me!)

If you’re new here, this Sunday newsletter is something I’ve been doing for yearssssss. I do change up the layouts every so often and sometimes the subject matter. But recently, I just been vibing. Whatever comes to my mind, I’m writing it and sending it out. I have space for one or two more sections so if you have some ideas of what you’d like to see in the newsletter, let me know! I’m always down for something new.

Anywayyyy, grab your warm cup of whatever makes you feel good.. or cold, being that its 80s damn degrees outside for no reason!

Love Really Should Be Enough

So I’m always seeing people say “love ain’t enough” when it comes to relationships and deciding on whether you should stick it out or not simply because you love them. Now my view on this may be a “hot take”, but I’m gonna say what I have to say about it because it’s been sitting on my mind for a while.

In my mind, love absolutely should be enough. When you find someone and fall in love with them… there are a lot of things you begin doing for them just because you love them.

So why is loving them not enough for you to respect them? Why is love not enough for you to be faithful to them? Why is love not enough for you to do right by them?

Because I love you, I should respect you. Because I love you, I shouldn’t do the things you have expressed that you don’t like. Because I love you, I should treat you right. Because I love you, I should be honest and transparent with you. Because I love you, I shouldn’t do things that I know will hurt you. Because I love you, I should consider you. Because I love you, I should be kind and patient with you. Now don’t get me wrong; basic human decency, respect, and kindness is a given. You don’t have to love someone to give that, but you know exactly what I’m trying to say.

It really should be that simple. But of course, because you’re dealing with stubborn ass humans, it isn’t that simple. People are selfish. People lie. People break the rules. People do things to the ones they love that they shouldn’t do.

We over-complicate so many aspects of our lives and it’s heartbreaking to watch people’s relationships with themselves and others go down the drain all because of selfishness.

Because in all actuality, this doesn’t stop at relationships, it reaches the love that you’re supposed to have for yourself, too. When people say “start loving yourself first”… they aren’t just saying it to hear themselves talk. People who don’t love themselves are very easy to spot. They don’t take care of their bodies. They don’t nurture their spirit. They don’t care about the things they do or the people they hurt. All because they don’t love themselves.

You take care of the things you love.

Your grandpa loved that old Cadillac in the garage and that’s why you saw him putting so much money and time into it. He cared for it, because he loved it.

Someone you know loves their job and/or money more than they love anyone else and that’s why they’re always working. Always grinding. Always putting in time on the clock.

Crackheads love getting high and you best believe they will do anything and everything to chase that high every damn day.

So is love really not enough? I beg to differ. All I’m trying to say is, love should be enough to do right by your partner, your friends, and even yourself. Take care of what you claim to love. It really is that simple. And if you’re having a hard time doing that? Go heal. Because it’s clear you may have some traumas to work through.

Aye!! Don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger.

Curious Minds 🧠

So there was a research study done at the University of Syracuse and it was found that falling in love has effects on the body that are similar to cocaine.

LOL. That’s kind of insane. So when they said love is a drug, they meant that shit.

Love and drugs go hand in hand with making you feel alive at five and you’re telling me that love isn’t enough to do right by yourself and your partner? PLEASE!!!

People say love makes you do all kinds of crazy things, but it’s not enough to make you do the right things? Can’t make this shit up.
