the liminal space at the Mississippi river
a soft goodbye to the version of me who didn’t know she was already home
the air is thick and moody
fog is hugging every corner of the horizon
there is a flickering street light in the distance
im alone…
but then im not.
because the world around me is alive
it’s breathing life into the energy that surrounds the atmosphere while everyone else is asleep —
it can finally take a moment to recharge
without the hustle and bustle of lost souls wandering and trying to find their place.
it can finally take a moment to just be itself
dark… moody… quiet…
i can hear it thinking
the river…
as i stand at the top of the levee watching the water trade places with itself.
there’s an old rusted boat in the distance leaning onto muddy sides of the earth.
i wonder where it came from —
what’s the story behind it?
who was the captain?
did he have a heart like mine?
was his soul just as lost?
did he ever find his way home?
was he feeling feeling the same thing i feel? a heavy ache in his chest?
nostalgia clinging on for dear life… pulling him into the ground forcing him to stand still.
paralyzing his movements so that the only thing could do was stand there and take it all in?
i dont know if he ever made it home
but somehow tonight? i think he did.
