The Sunday Chronicle 📰✨

Good morning, my friends.

I haven’t talked to you all in a minute — this month was busy. So just a little update, which I’m sure many of you already know, I finally graduated!!!! YES! I have my degree in my hands — English and Creative Writing; something that I have been working towards for the last six years since I decided that I was going to finally pursue my real passion. It feels so amazing, man.

Anyway, let’s jump right into today’s post shall we? So grab you coffee, tea, or whatever makes you feel comfortable and sit with me for a few minutes.

When Home Calls — You Answer

On July 1, 2024, I wrote this post below. On July 12, 2025 — we made Louisiana our home again. So read this post — and then my commentary on it.

I wrote a blog post a while back about how much I had been missing New Orleans. It’s been almost two years since I’ve visited and just thinking about it the other day made me emotional. To be quite honest, I’m not sure why it made me cry when I thought about it. But, it made me realize just how much I needed to feel the city’s warmth around me again.

The last time I was there it was a super quick visit. We didn’t do much, we were actually there to handle some business. So the last time I was able to explore the city was when I was living there in 2021.

The excitement that I’ve had the last few days since I booked our room has been so refreshing.

The thought of going to the places I love to eat, driving through all the neighborhoods that I once saw myself buying a home in, going to the parks that I love so much, going and standing on the levee in Gretna and reminiscing about the last time I was there and what I felt, driving past the old house we used to live in, riding the ferry… I just cannot wait. This trip being a date night weekend makes it all the better. Just me and the man I love making more memories in his hometown.

Sometimes I hate the decision that we made to leave the city.

You know, we had our reasons for leaving. They were good and solid reasons and honestly, the type of safety and peace that we have in the neighborhood that we currently live in in Texas, money cannot buy. However, some days I really wonder if we made the right decision. No place has ever felt like home to me the way Louisiana made me feel. It wasn’t just New Orleans either. It was Louisiana in general. We took a lot of mini road trips through southern Louisiana and all of it… everywhere we went… everywhere we visited felt like home. I must’ve lived and breathed Louisiana in my past life or something. I just miss everything about it.

Maybe one day it’ll be home for me again.

If I had the chance to move back to Louisiana today, I’d take it. I can’t shake the feeling of home and I don’t choose what or who makes me feel at home. It’s just a feeling and I have no control over it and to be completely honest — I am okay with that. For me, it’s always the little things in everything. In every situation. It’s always the little things that draw me in to people and to places. Louisiana gave me all those little things that make my heart happy.

One day, it’ll be home again.

“One day, it’ll be home again.”

Who knew that one day would only be one short year later.

It’s wild to think about to be honest. I had no idea that it would be so soon. I didn’t even know a month before moving that we’d be moving. One day, we just decided to start applying for apartments and jobs to see what happens and BOOM within a week — approvals and “hired” came knocking. We were packed up and on the road by week three.

The biggest leap of faith we’ve ever taken and we stuck the landing so well. It’s been five months since we’ve been back and my heart has never been happier.
Today’s post wasn’t meant to be long or drawn out — if I’m being honest, I am tired. I have had a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng year and a longgg last few weeks. I’m burned out. I’m exhausted.

But I wanted to shed light on something. Sometimes, we forget that we have free will. We forget that we can do anything we want in this life — this very short life we live.

If you have been being called to move, to do something out of the norm, to follow a dream, a passion, I want you to do it.

I don’t care what’s holding you back. I want you to find a way to do it and make it happen. EVEN IF it’s going to take you some time… make a plan and do it. Life isn’t stopping for any of us. We are spinning around on this damn planet and the next thing you know, you’re 56 years old wondering what if? Regretting decisions you’ve made or things you could’ve done but were too scared to do.

We don’t wanna be those people. We don’t wanna be the woman or man in the bar, tipsy asf on a Tuesday night telling the locals about a chance they didn’t take that they wish they did.

Make the plan and put it into action.

I told my husband something the other day, “I always get what I want. I wanted a degree, I got it. I wanted to move back to Louisiana, I got that. I wanted you… I GOT THAT” LOL. When I set my heart and mind on something, nothing can stop me.

I want you to have that same hunger about life.

So — whatever is calling you, truly calling you, answer for it. (Unless it’s that toxic ex — please decline, thank you).

Until next time,

Marie <3
