It’s coming up on April 2006 and New Orleans is trying to breathe again. The Quarter continues to gleam with music and money — the kind that promises rebirth, not redemption. Tourists toast to resilience while the locals trade side-eye glances that say they know better.

But beneath the brass and bourbon, something is stirring, and fast. The bodies pulled from the river last week have been autopsied, and what was found has left even the morgue silent. Organs missing. Files continue to be sealed. The city’s heartbeat is skipping beats, and no one in power seems eager to explain why.

The rumors are growing teeth. Whispers of “special transfers,” off-the-record recoveries, and a department stretched thin by too many ghosts… and truths. Some say the storm didn’t just flood the streets — it washed something loose. Something more sinister than even you and I can understand.

The Vieux Carré Press won’t flinch. Not when the headlines lie, not when the truth stinks of rotting wood and secrets. We’ll keep printing, one exclusive stained page at a time, until the city admits what it’s trying so hard to cover up.

Here’s what we’ve uncovered this week.

The Quarter continues to light up with secrets and events. But the VCP doesn’t forget what’s sins are laying at the bottom of the river.

If you’ve got a tip, slide it under the newsroom door before next Thursday’s issue.
If you’ve got a secret… pray we don’t print it first.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

March 30th, 2006

In the city they say never sleeps, everyone’s eyes seem to be closed. At least the eyes that matter. We have three bodies that turned up. Bodies of people who didn’t belong to New Orleans. Now? Organs are missing. Yet, the VCP is the only place you’ll get this information. Not on TV, not over the waves of the radio.

It’s clear that we’ll have a target on our backs after this issue is released. But baby? I never cared.

The truth deserves a seat at the table. And we have open seats available to anyone who wants to be served up a platter of honesty.

No matter how many cups of coffee I have to drink to keep me up. No matter how many inside leaks and leads we have to chase — the fog will be cleared soon enough.

And when it does? The Vieux Carré Press will be there. Waiting.
